Philips to stay at West Bromwich Albion
Monday, June 16th, 2008Philips had an impressive season last year in the Championship as was one of the main causes for Albion’s promotion into top tier English football.
Philips requested a two year but Paul Smith told the BBC:
“We’ve come to terms with the fact there may not be two years on offer.”
“The lure of Premier League football again is very big.”
Philips scored 22 goals for the championship side and his performances last season attracted the attention of many clubs including: Leeds United and Hull City.
The reason West Bromwich Albion are unwilling to give the striker a two year contract is that they fear Philips has only one season left in him and the fast pace of the premiership will not suit the 34 year old.
Philips still upholds a phenomenal scoring record for West Bromwich Albion scoring 46 goals in 81 appearances. Other top flight premier teams are not attracting the player as they feel that Philips time is up and will not play a full season in the premiership.
